He grew up in Sacramento, CA, mainly playing drums in church. From a very young age, he realized the importance of remaining present and actively listening to the team or band while playing live. He also quickly learned that drums are a foundational instrument and are crucial to a band’s ability to develop and cultivate a cohesive sound. These discoveries have shaped him in to the musician and artist he is today, as he doesn’t want anything he plays to be without purpose or to distract from what’s happening sonically. Growing up in church also provided him the environment he needed to hone in his approach to song/set list preparation and improvisational (spontaneous) play-ability.
He started playing drums at Jesus Culture in Sacramento, CA in 2019 and just recently moved to Nashville from Dallas, TX where he was playing at UPPERROOM. In the fall of 2019, he opened a recording studio where he tracked studio drums and percussion on numerous projects and edited drums in Pro Tools for albums, most notably Gable Price and Friends.
Nate’s history in music has shaped his approach to education to be based on finding who you are as a musician. Everyone has a specific creative voice that they express differently as individuals. Nate is a firm believer that one of the most beautiful things about music, is you don’t have to sound like everyone else. It’s important to have inspiration and creative role models we look up to, but finding who you are as a musician and artist is one of the most important processes we can take on as creatives. Nate considers himself a lifelong learner and is constantly pushing himself creatively in alignment with this core value. There’s always going to be something more for you in this process of learning your own unique creative voice.
Other Focuses: song preparation, production, and improvisation
